The borough council's planning committee has granted planning permission for the redevelopment of the old Saltergate Stadium for up to 68 houses. The permission is accompanied by a legal agreement providing for open space, public art, contributions towards highways improvements and provision for affordable housing in the event that the housing market lifts by the time of construction.
The permission is in outline at this stage, which means that details of the design of houses and the final layout will need to be submitted later within the next two years, although the details of vehicle access onto Cross Street have been agreed, with separate route in and out of the site to help ensure safety in front of St Mary's Primary School.Details of the application can be viewed online under the reference CHE/11/00189/OUT
Amended Saltergate Planning Brief, November 2009
A draft Planning Brief for the site was published in September 2008 for consultation. Residents on surrounding streets were notified of the proposals and a public meeting held at the Town Hall. The comments that were received, including presentations from St Mary’s School on Cross Street, were used to inform the final planning brief, which was approved by the council's cabinet on 1st December 2009.
