Tributes to HRH Prince Philip The Duke of Edinburgh

We were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Philip The Duke of Edinburgh.

Public tributes have been made by the Mayor of Chesterfield, Leader of the Council and the Chief Executive.

The nation has entered a period of national mourning. This will end following The Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral on Saturday 17 April.

During this time the Union Flag will remain at half-mast on the Town Hall.

 

Message of Condolence from Chesterfield borough

The Mayor of Chesterfield sends a message of condolence, on behalf of the people of Chesterfield borough, to the Royal Family after the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Philip The Duke of Edinburgh.

  

Book of Condolence

Chesterfield residents who would like to pay tribute to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh are asked to sign the national book of condolence on the Royal website.

Please consider also doing this on behalf of family or friends who may not have internet access.

This is line with national COVID-19 public health advice at this time.

 

Tributes and flowers

The Royal Household understand that members of the public would like to express their grief on the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh and advise that making a donation to one of His Royal Highness’s many patronages is a fitting way of paying tribute to his remarkable legacy, in lieu of floral tributes at this time.

Funeral arrangements

The Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral will take place on Saturday 17 April 2021 at 3pm in St George’s Chapel, Windsor. The funeral service will begin with a national minute’s silence at 3pm.

This will be broadcast on national television. More details of the ceremony can be found on the Royal website.

Commemorative services – guidance for places of worship

Services of Commemoration may be held before the funeral and during the seven days after the funeral but should not be held on the day of the funeral itself.

Places of worship holding commemorative services must adhere to the COVID-19 restrictions currently in place.
