Preventing homelessness – a message to all tenants and landlords

The COVID19 pandemic has been incredibly difficult for tenants and landlords and as the Government’s eviction ban has come to an end, we want you to know that support is still available.

Rent arrears caused by the pandemic could lead to a homeless crisis, but there is help available for both tenants and landlords to prevent this.

If you are a tenant living in private, rented accommodation we need you to get help now if you think you may be at risk of losing your home.

We also need private landlords to seek help before considering ending the tenancy for tenants due to rent arrears caused by the pandemic.

Find out more about the four help options available below:

 

Option one - Call B4 U Serve

Landlords can approach Call B4 U Serve, hosted by Derby City Council, for support and advice. Call B4 You Serve can offer a number of solutions to get the tenancy back on track without resorting to costly legal action.


Option two – Citizens Advice / Derbyshire Welfare Rights

If you are concerned about your financial position and think that this could put your tenancy at risk then please seek advice before it’s too late by contacting the teams below.

Option three – Derbyshire Law Centre

Derbyshire Law Centre have a team of homelessness prevention workers, expert advisors and senior solicitors that cover most areas in Derbyshire.

Option four – Chesterfield Borough Council

Even if you haven’t explored options one to three and you believe your tenancy is still at risk then please contact the council’s homelessness prevention team. Please do not leave this until the last minute. The more time the officers have the more options the council will be able to offer to help you.
