We are seeking to recruit a full time Payroll Assistant to assist in the delivery of the Payroll service for Chesterfield Borough Council within our busy payroll team. 

This role involves the processing of payroll data; therefore you should be competent in both data input and validation within the payroll process.

We operate to a strict deadline in order to accurately pay this monthly payroll. You should have good organisational skills, with the ability to work to deadlines and under pressure. In addition we are seeking someone with a methodical and thorough approach to your work, and the ability of “attention to detail”.

It is important that you have a good working knowledge of a payroll environment, and payroll’s associated statutory legislation including PAYE, NIC, SSP, SMP, pension Automatic Enrolment, etc.  We are seeking someone with good accuracy and numeracy skills.  Experience of working with a Local Government payroll or similar is an advantage. An IPP Diploma qualification or similar is also an advantage, but neither are essential.

You should have experience of working within a small team dealing with a high level of confidential information and be a great team player.

Good IT skills are essential, including using email, word, and spreadsheets. A working knowledge of an integrated computerised HR/Payroll System is essential; with experience of the ResourceLink system being an advantage.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication and telephone skills,  with the ability to answer queries from both internal and external sources.
