Positive steps have been taken to create a safer and more peaceful neighbourhoods after Chesterfield Borough Council secured full closure orders for two properties linked to persistent anti-social behaviour.
Working closely with Derbyshire Constabulary, the council has successfully obtained a three-month closure order for a property in Dunston and one in Holme Hall following continuous reports of nuisance and disorder.
On 11 August 2026 a hearing at Derby Magistrates outlined the continues reports of anti-social behaviour relating to a property at Mercaston Close, Home Hall.
The court heard about ongoing anti-social behaviour reports at this address, including repeated noise nuisance, suspected criminal and drug-related activity and harassment of local residents.
At a further hearing at Derby Magistrates Court on 14 August 2026, the council presented evidence which demonstrated a persistent pattern of anti-social behaviour at a property on Rosewood Close, Dunston.
The most common complaints related to noise nuisance, including loud music, parties, shouting, arguments and visitors congregating at the property late into the night and early hours of the morning.
The property was also linked to reports of criminal and drug-related activity, concerns of threatening, abusive and intimidating behaviour, and environmental issues such as littering, dog fouling and damage to shared spaced.
Despite extensive efforts by the council to resolve these issues, including tenancy warning letters, a community protection notice and other enforcement measures, reports of anti-social behaviour continued, leaving the council with no choice but to apply for full closure orders for both properties.
The full closure order means that nobody is permitted to enter either of the properties while the order is in force, including the tenants, which will provide immediate relief for local residents who have experienced ongoing anti-social behaviour.
Councillor Tricia Gilby, Leader of Chesterfield Borough Council, said: “Everyone has the right to enjoy and feel safe in their homes and we’ll always take appropriate action against anyone causing disruption in our communities.
“The behaviour at these two addresses is not only a breach of the tenancy agreement but it has also had a significant impact on neighbours, so we are really pleased that we have been able to obtain full closure order notices for three months. This will allow some relief for the neighbours and also allow the council and appropriate agencies the opportunity to address issues associated with the properties.
“I hope that this case acts as a warning to others causing disruptive behaviours, as well as reassuring other residents that we will always put our communities first and take appropriate action when required.”
