Licensed premises invited to sign up to Best Bar None scheme

Licensed premises across the borough are being invited to join Chesterfield’s Best Bar None Scheme for 2026 and play their part in improving night-time safety across the borough.

All pubs, bars, clubs, restaurants and function venues are being invited to a launch evening from 7pm on Wednesday 28 January at the SMH Group Stadium where they will be able to find out more about the scheme and how to become an accredited venue for 2026.

There will be the opportunity to hear directly from Best Bar None and Chesterfield Borough Council about the benefits of the scheme.

The Best Bar None scheme is a Home Office backed initiative that aims to improve nighttime safety.

There are currently 27 venues across Chesterfield who have the Best Bar None accreditation.

Initially launched in Chesterfield in 2024 by Chesterfield Borough Council, in partnership with Best Bar None, Chesterfield Pubwatch and Derbyshire Constabulary,  the aim of the scheme is  to help reduce alcohol-related crime and disorder and provide a safer night out for everyone.

The scheme is designed to build positive relationships between the licensed trade, police and local authorities and also aims to champion improvements in the way venues are managed and encourage best practice to be shared.

Since its launch, Chesterfield Borough Council has expanded the scheme, and now invites all licensed premises, including restaurants, from all across the borough to register for Best Bar None accreditation.

More information on the scheme can be found on our Best Bar None page.

Councillor Steve Lismore, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “Chesterfield is a very safe place to live, socialise and visit, and while alcohol-related crime and disorder can occasionally arise - as it does in towns and cities across the country - we are committed to ensuring that Chesterfield remains safe, welcoming and fun for everyone, and the Best Bar None scheme helps us to achieve this.

“We’re lucky to have so many great bars, clubs and restaurants across the town and we would love to see as many of them as possible become accredited venues and work together to help keep Chesterfield’s night-time economy thriving. We already have 27 venues accredited, and it would be great to get even more of you involved.

“If you own a licensed premises, please do join us on Wednesday 28 January so we can tell you more about the benefits of becoming an accredited venue.”
