Licensed venues across the borough are being urged to step up and join Chesterfield’s Best Bar None Scheme - helping to drive a safer and vibrant day and night‑time economy.
All pubs, bars, clubs, and licensed venues are once again being encouraged to sign up to the scheme and become an accredited venue for 2026 — and for the first time, restaurants are also invited to take part, opening the door for even more venues to champion higher standards and safer socialising.
Representatives from a number of local licensed venues attended an event on Wednesday 28 January to learn about the benefits of the scheme, with many registering their interest on the night.
Other licensed venues are now being encouraged to do the same and can register their interest.
The Best Bar None scheme is a Home Office backed initiative that helps customers to identify well-run pubs, bars, clubs and other businesses that serve alcohol.
Initially launched in the town centre in 2024 by Chesterfield Borough Council, in partnership with Best Bar None, Chesterfield Pubwatch and Derbyshire Constabulary, the aim of the scheme is to help reduce alcohol-related crime and disorder and ensure safer socialising for everyone.
The scheme is designed to build positive relationships between the licensed trade, police and local authorities, and aims to champion improvements in the way venues are managed, as well as encouraging best practice to be shared.
Since its launch, Chesterfield Borough Council has expanded the scheme, and now invites all licensed premises, including restaurants, from across the borough to register for Best Bar None accreditation.
There are currently over 20 venues across Chesterfield who have the Best Bar None accreditation and the council is hopeful that his number will continue to grow as more premises commit to setting the standard for safe socialising.

Councillor Kate Sarvent, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for town centres and visitor economy, said: “Chesterfield is a very safe place to live, socialise and visit, and while alcohol-related crime and disorder can occasionally arise - as it does in towns and cities across the country - we are committed to ensuring that Chesterfield remains safe, welcoming and fun for everyone, and the Best Bar None scheme helps us to achieve this.
“We’re lucky to have so many great bars, clubs and restaurants across the town and we would love to see as many of them as possible become accredited venues and work together to help keep Chesterfield’s day and night-time economy thriving.
“If you own a licensed premises, please do get in touch so we can tell you more about the benefits of becoming an accredited venue, and help raise the bar on standards for your customers and staff.”
