The Royal Lancers set to parade through Chesterfield

The Royal Lancers will be parading through Chesterfield on Saturday 19 July.

Exercising the Freedom of Entry to the Borough, the parade will set off from the Crooked Spire and head through the town centre to the Town Hall where there will be an inspection by the Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire and Chesterfield’s Mayor.

Councillor Barry Dyke, the Mayor of Chesterfield, said: “It is an honour to be able to welcome members of the Royal Lancers to Chesterfield. I hope lots of people come out and show their support during the parade.”

The Freedom of Entry to the Borough was given to the 9th/12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales's) in 2012. It is the highest honour that the borough can grant and means the Regiment have the freedom to parade through the borough.

The Royal Lancers have recently returned from several operations, including Operation ELGIN in Kosovo, Operation TOSCA in Cyprus and Operation CABRIT in Poland. Taking place in the heartland of their recruiting area, the parade follows time-old tradition whereby regiments of the British Army exercise the Freedom of Entry to the Borough to mark their return from operations.

On Saturday 19 July the parade is due to set off from the Crooked Spire at 11.45am and there will be an inspection outside the Town Hall.
