Local residents aged 40 and over are being invited to try a range of walking sports at a free community event in Chesterfield this August.
The free Walking Sports Festival will take place on Wednesday 19 August, from 5pm to 8pm, at Queen’s Park and Queen’s Park Sports Centre.
Organised by Chesterfield FC Community Trust in partnership with Chesterfield Borough Council, the event will give people the chance to take part in free taster sessions for walking football, walking cricket, walking netball, walking hockey and walking rugby.
The sessions are designed to offer a fun, friendly and inclusive way for people to get active at a gentler pace, meet others and find out more about local opportunities to stay healthy.
Drop-in sessions will run between 5pm and 7pm, followed by a free BBQ for participants from 7pm to 8pm at the Cricket Pavilion. Local organisations will also be on hand with stalls promoting activities and support available in the area.
Councillor Gavin Baldauf-Good, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for customers and business transformation, said: “Walking sports are a brilliant way for people to enjoy the benefits of being active in a relaxed, social and welcoming environment.
“This free event is a great opportunity for residents aged 40 and over to try something new, meet other people and find out more about the activities and support available locally. We’re pleased to be working with Chesterfield FC Community Trust to bring the festival to Queen’s Park.”
Jayne Bacon, Head of Community at Chesterfield FC Community Trust said: “The Walking Sports Festival is all about making sport accessible, enjoyable and sociable. Whether people are returning to sport, trying it for the first time or simply looking for a new way to stay active, we hope they will come along and get involved.”
