Sell your unwanted items

Selling online is a popular way to get rid of your unwanted items.

Large items in particular will be collected by the buyer for free, and you might even make a bit of money out of it (most sites charge a fee for listing and/or selling your items).

Popular sites include:

There are many other online selling sites with some specialising in specific types of goods. You can also advertise items for sale on supermarket noticeboards and in classified newspapers.

Safety first

When selling items, don't be pressurised into letting someone into your home. Do make sure someone else is in the house when the taker comes to collect.

It's also a good idea to have a mobile phone in your pocket, keep valuables out of sight, and to limit the collector's movements to as few rooms as possible. Don't give out too many personal details.

If you decide to give out your phone number, only give it to one person at once, to avoid getting swamped with calls.

Some sites let members include contact details in listings, but it's not a good idea to give out personal details.

Car boot sales

If you have transport, why not try selling your unwanted items at a local car boot sale or flea market?
