Procurement governance

We have a duty to manage our resources in the most efficient and effective way.

Our procurement team works with suppliers and stakeholders to ensure the council achieves value for money when procuring contracts for goods, works and services.

Procurement strategy

Our corporate procurement strategy sets out our approach to procurement, providing a framework to support the implementation of sustainable procurement that not only meets the needs to the council, it ensures compliance to procurement legislation.

Procurement rules and procedures

Chesterfield Borough Council and our suppliers must adhere to several rules and procedures when undertaking procurement activity. These are called our 'contract procedure rules', and form part of our constitution.

Contracts above the UK procurement thresholds must follow the processes set out within UK procurement legislation. All public sector organisations must follow these rules which ensure that the contracts we enter into are done so in a transparent, fair, and non-discriminatory way that demonstrates value for money to the tax payer.

UK public procurement is changing

The Procurement Act 2023 is significant new legislation that will transform public procurement. Following the laying of secondary legislation in October 2024, we can confirm that we are working towards a ‘go-live’ date for the new regime of Monday 24 February 2025.
