Home contents insurance 

Advice about home contents insurance is given at your sign up visit. Find out more about the home contents insurance scheme offered by Chesterfield Borough Council. If you already have a policy with us, you can update your address details by calling 01246 345467.  

Royal Mail  

Your mail can be redirected from your old home address to your new home for a small charge. For details call 0345 777 7888 or visit the Post Office website.    

Council Tax 

Call 01246 345345 or report a change of address online

Universal Credit 

Universal Credit claims for housing costs can’t be made until the day your tenancy officially starts. You can report your change of address online through your Universal Credit account. Speak to your work coach for assistance. 

Housing Benefit 

If you get Housing Benefit you need to stop any benefit being paid on your old address and claim at your new address. Call 01246 345345 or tell us about a change in circumstances online.  

TV Licensing 

Visit www.tvlicensing.co.uk or call 0300 790 6144 to let them know about your change of address or to purchase a new television licence. 

Telephone and broadband provider 

You will need to contact your broadband or landline supplier at your current home to let them know that you are moving. Don’t forget to let us know if you have a new phone number. 

Electoral register  

You will need to update your address on the electoral register, you can do this on the Gov.uk website.
