Positive action planned to further enhance housing services

Following a recent inspection of its housing services that saw it achieve the second highest positive rating possible, Chesterfield Borough Council has set out new actions and initiatives that will help it to further improve the quality of housing for its residents.

The council’s cabinet has now approved a Regulator of Social Housing and Tenant Satisfaction Action Plan, which sets out the council’s continuous improvement activities to ensure it meets the Consumer Standards.
The action plan comes after the council received a grade of C2 from the Regulator of Social Housing, which means that while there are some areas that must be improved, overall, there is a good level of ‘assurance’ that the Regulator’s Consumer Standards are being achieved.

A number of significant changes and improvements have already been made to the housing service, including:

  • The reshape of housing management and statutory housing functions, which resulted in more front-line housing management staff and more tenant engagement opportunities
  • Implementation of a robust monitoring regime for landlord compliance and safety to ensure continuing excellent performance
  • Establishment of a Housing Advisory Board, which brings together tenants, Members and senior officers to drive performance improvements with a focus on tenant satisfaction, complaints and compliance

Councillor Jean Innes, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for housing, said: “As a social housing provider, ensuring that our services meet the needs of our tenants is our top priority. The C2 grade, which is the second highest grade possible, recognises that we are meeting the Regulators’ Consumer Standards in many areas. The regulator’s report does identify some areas for improvement to make sure that we are offering the best possible services for our tenants.

“Significant progress has already been made to improve our services and based on the feedback from the regulator, Cabinet have approved an action plan that sets out a range of continuous improvement activities.

“We look forward to working with the regulator on our improvement journey, and we will continue to work directly with our tenants, keeping them updated and involved.”

Council tenants can continue to help to shape and improve our services by joining in with one of our tenant engagement activities. With a number of different tenant engagement opportunities available, there’s plenty of ways that you can get your voice heard and have a say on what matters most to you about your home and local area.
