Before making the decision to close Careline on 1 August 2026, we asked local people for their views through a public consultation.
Over 700 people took part, including those who use the service, their families and carers, and local organisations.
In simple terms, people told us that:
- Careline is valued and trusted
- it is especially important for older and vulnerable people
- some people said they would move to another provider if a similar service was available at a lower cost locally
- if the service closed, people would need clear information and support to move to another provider
We carefully considered all of this feedback before making the final decision.
You said, we did
You said:
- “Careline is important for my safety and peace of mind”
- “This service is especially important for older and vulnerable people”
- “I would consider moving if there was a similar service locally at a lower cost”
- “I would need help and clear information if I had to change services”
We did:
- looked at different options, including changing charges and new ways of running the service, before deciding to close
- made sure Careline will continue as normal until it closes, so there is time to plan
- put in place a full support programme to help every customer move safely to another provider of their choice
- committed to making sure there is no break in support for any customer
- developed simple information and a list of alternative providers in Chesterfield, including options that may better meet people’s needs and budgets
What this means for you
Careline will continue to operate as normal until it closes on 1 August 2026
- customers will need to move to another provider before the service ends if they wish
- there will be no break in your support if you wish to move to another provider
- we know that changing services can feel daunting, but you will not be expected to do this alone
