A new multi-agency initiative has launched in Chesterfield – designed to help keep residents and visitors safe on night out and take the pressure off the emergency services.
The Safe Space project is already running successfully in a number of major cities and towns acts the county and is now rolling out in Chesterfield Town Centre.
The initiative is a partnership initiative between Chesterfield Borough Council, Chesterfield Community Safety Partnership, Derbyshire Constabulary, Derbyshire County Council, and voluntary organisations.
What is the Safe Space and where will it be located?
A mobile welfare unit will be located on Rykneld Square (near the Crooked Spire) from 10pm most Saturday nights, until the early hours of Sunday morning, to provide support to anyone who may become vulnerable.
A team of volunteers will be on hand at the welfare unit to provide first aid, help people who have become separated from their friends, or just offer a listening ear to anyone who may need it.

First Aid
Volunteers will be able to provide first aid, without judgement. Regardless of your injury we will provide assistance and help you get further medical support if needed.
Flip flops
Killer heels can live up to their name but taking them off and walking around barefoot is an accident waiting to happen. This is when flip flops come in handy - pop along to the welfare unit to pick up a pair.
Support
Volunteers are there to listen, to care and to help keep you safe. They will be able to help you to charge your phone so you can contact your friends and family, or help you to get a taxi. They will also be able to provide you with free hot drinks or water.
Information and advice
Our team can help you by providing information and leaflets for alcohol and drugs, domestic violence, sexual assault, homelessness and mental health.
