New Local Plan and Call for Sites

Residents and businesses are invited to have their say on the new Chesterfield Borough Local Plan.

The Local Plan is a crucial part of the planning process, and sets out how many homes and commercial properties will be built, and where. This aims to ensure that new development is sustainable and supports local economic growth, without negatively impacting upon people’s health and wellbeing, or the environment.

As part of our preparation of a new Local Plan we are also carrying out a Call for Sites.

Residents, businesses, landowners, and developers can submit sites for development or land use changes, where they can show that these are available for the suggested new use.

The Local Plan consultation and Call for Sites are open from 31 March until Monday 12 May 2025.

Public Web Map

With funding from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, we have worked with a software provider called Urban Intelligence to develop an interactive map. The map will make it easier for the public to find information about planning policies and allocated development sites in the borough.

The map is a work in progress, and is being published now to gather feedback from the public.

Currently the interactive map includes the Local Plan policies, constraints such as flood risk, housing and employment site allocations, as well as sites submitted for assessment in the 2022 Call for Sites. Inclusion of the call for sites is for information only. It does not mean that the sites will be taken forward to be allocated in a future Local Plan.
