Emergency planning privacy notice

It is necessary for the council to collect, store and process some personal information in order to meet emergency planning obligations.

Safeguards are in place to ensure that this data is kept secure and the privacy of individuals is protected.

Chesterfield Borough Council is the data controller for the personal information collected.

Purposes of processing your personal data

We need to process some personal information in order to keep a record of emergency incidents in the borough; this allows us to review how they were managed.

We also need to capture event organiser information for large events. This information is used to ensure key people are contactable in an emergency and to ensure that there is enough information for potential risks to public safety to be identified and addressed.

In order to provide this service, we may need to process some or all of the following categories of personal information:

Under data protection legislation, this processing is permitted because we have a legal obligation under the Civil Contingencies Act 2014.

Who we share your personal data with

Event organiser information may be shared with Derbyshire County Council emergency planning officers. In the event of an emergency, information may be shared with emergency services.

Personal information which you have supplied to us will be used for the following purposes:

  • to organise delivery of supplies
  • to organise warden activity and storage of suppliers
  • to contact you about your continued participation in the scheme

Under data protection legislation, the lawful basis for this processing is that it forms part of the performance of a contract – in this case the volunteering agreement you signed up to.

Who we share your personal data with

Your information will be shared with the volunteer Ward Coordinator for your ward.
