Nestled on the edge of the stunning Peak District, Chesterfield is a bustling borough with big ambition. We’re a historic market town with a proud heritage, nestled on the edge of the stunning Peak District, and by working with us, you will be contributing to a prosperous and thriving future for our borough.

A full-time opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join our small, dynamic Policy and Partnership Team as a Climate Change Officer.

The council has set ambitious targets to become a carbon neutral organisation by 2030, and to support the borough to be carbon neutral by 2050. This is a fast paced, emerging area of work, and a natural enthusiasm and interest in the subject matter is essential.

Purpose of the role

This is an interesting and varied role, with the following key responsibilities:

  • lead and facilitate the council’s response to the Climate Change agenda
  • internal and external stakeholder engagement and collaboration, such at local and regional levels, with partners and the wider community on climate change activity to ensure it remains relevant and informs policy
  • identify and secure funding to support the council’s climate change ambitions
  • utilise external assessment opportunities for the continued monitoring of carbon emissions to inform the implementation of the climate change strategy

Our successful candidate

We are looking for an individual who wants to make a real impact on climate change and improve the quality of life for residents across Chesterfield. You will need to demonstrate a high level of creativity and innovative thinking to work effectively with a wide range of different stakeholders, so good communication skills, both oral and written, are also essential for this role.

So, if you are passionate about Climate Change and have a resilience and determination to meet the challenges of the future, this role could be for you.
