We are looking for a suitably qualified, experienced regulatory solicitor/lawyer with a broad range of skills who can make an immediate impact. Utilising your solid foundation of regulatory law experience, you will be a part of a busy team delivering a quality service.

Purpose of the role

Our lawyers are responsible for providing advice on a range of legal areas including planning, licensing, environmental health, and housing.

What you will do:

  • provide strategic legal advice and counsel to council officers on a broad range of legal matters, including representation at court, inquiries, public tribunals as well as other regulatory law matters
  • develop and implement legal policies and procedures for the council
  • proactively identifying and mitigating legal risks for the council
  • ensure that our decisions are legally robust by identifying legal risks early and working with other teams to ensure that those risks are managed appropriately
  • provide advice on internal policies, procedures and processes and ensure legal compliance
  • develop strong relationships throughout the organisation, using your legal expertise and knowledge to provide solutions-focused support
  • staying up to date on relevant laws and regulations, ensuring the council remains compliant

This is a fabulous opportunity for a practising solicitor, barrister or Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX) fellow lawyer (qualified to work in the UK) who is seeking a wide-ranging and stimulating role within a local government environment.

You will be able to evidence a strong track record of your ability to develop and maintain strong relationships and partnerships both internally and externally.
