Introduction:

Chesterfield Borough Council is excited to announce openings for two apprentices in our Revenues and Benefits service. These full-time positions are based at the Town Hall, centrally located in Chesterfield Town Centre.

As an apprentice, you will receive comprehensive training in all facets of Revenues and Benefits. Additionally, you will be enrolled in a Level 4 apprenticeship program. 

We are committed to supporting your educational journey by providing time away from work for studying and regular meetings with a mentor. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will gain extensive hands-on experience and earn a qualification from the Institute of Revenues Rating and Valuation (IRRV).

Role responsibilities:

  • processing changes in customer accounts, for Council Tax and Business Rates
  • awarding discounts and exemptions
  • assessing housing benefit and council tax support claims, and
  • managing benefit entitlement adjustments
  • setting up and amending Direct Debits
  • billing and collection of Housing Rent
  • billing and collection of commercial rent and sundry debts
  • plus, you'll play a vital role in collecting income and arrears owed to the council

We are looking for:

  • a team player with a 'can-do' attitude, eager to learn and adapt to evolving demands
  • someone with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, along with strong numeracy skills
  • a person who can handle sensitive matters with empathy and professionalism, ensuring customers feel respected and understood
  • someone who is used to using computers and software programmes
  • someone who is well-organised, accurate, and able to thrive under pressure

If you have completed another apprenticeship or qualification, it must be at a lower level or in a completely different subject area to the apprenticeship you are applying for. If you are successful in your application, you must not be in receipt of or attending any other funded training or signed to another apprenticeship.

We need you to bring a positive can-do attitude and we will help you make this role your own.
