Elections for all 64 county councillors in Derbyshire will take place on Thursday 1 May 2025.
Chesterfield Borough Council will administer elections for the eight county council seats in the borough of Chesterfield.
This election will be based on new county boundaries.
Not yet registered to vote?
In order to vote on Thursday 1 May you must be registered by Friday 11 April.
You can register to vote online. All you will need is your National Insurance Number, or you can complete a paper form and return it to our elections team.

Voter photo identification
You will need to show photo identification before you can vote in person at a polling station on Thursday 1 May.
There are lots of different forms of photo ID that will be accepted, including driving licence, Passport, Blue Badge, PASS card, older persons bus pass and more.
If you do not have photographic ID you will need to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate by 5pm on Wednesday 23 April.
A Voter Authority Certificate is a document containing an elector’s name and photograph which can be obtained free of charge.

Prefer to vote by post or by proxy?
If you would like to vote by post, you must apply by 5pm on Monday 14 April.
You can apply either online or by submitting a paper form to our elections team.
A proxy vote is when you arrange for someone to vote on your behalf and any elector can request a proxy vote, provided they give a reason. If you wish to use a proxy vote you must apply by 5pm on Wednesday 23 April.
If you have a medical emergency six days or less before the election you can apply for an emergency proxy vote up to 5pm on polling day.

Information for candidates
A candidate and agent briefing session will take place at Chesterfield Town Hall on Tuesday 18 March, at 6pm.
Nominations to stand for election as a candidate for the Derbyshire County Council election will be accepted by the Deputy Returning Officer at the Town Hall, Rose Hill, Chesterfield, S40 1LP between the hours of 10am and 4pm from Tuesday 25 March until close of nominations at 4pm on Wednesday 2 April.
