We are preparing a new Local Plan to replace the current Local Plan that was adopted in July 2020.
In 2025 we carried out a public consultation to understand which issues should be prioritised in our new Local Plan, and undertook a Call for Sites. You can see information on previous consultations below.
In March 2026 the Government introduced a new system for making Local Plans - the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2026. Our new Local Plan will now be prepared under the new system.
Next steps
As part of the early stage of preparing the new Local Plan ('the Plan'), we have already published our Notice of Intention to Commence Local Plan Preparation.
We must now undertake a Scoping Consultation to gather views on what the Plan should cover, how communities and stakeholders should be involved, and to understand what additional sites may be available for development.
Alongside this, we will be launching a Call for Sites, to update our information on what land may be available for different uses in the borough.
See the timetable for preparing the new Local Plan here.
