CBC243119 - Job description and person specification.

If you would like an accessible version of a job description then please contact the Human Resources team.

A full-time opportunity is available for an enthusiastic individual to join our small, dynamic, policy and partnership team as an assistant climate change officer.

The council has set ambitious targets to become a carbon neutral organisation by 2030, and to support the borough to be carbon neutral by 2050. We are about to launch our new Climate Change Strategy for 2023 to 2030 which sets out an ambitious programme of activities to continue our work to become carbon neutral in the forthcoming years.

This is a fast paced, emerging area of work, and an interest in climate change would be beneficial to performing the role. The Assistant Climate Change Officer’s main focus will be supporting the Climate Change Officer by providing co-ordination, monitoring, research, and administrative functions for the delivery of the council’s Climate Change Strategy.

The duties involve a range of coordination functions to support effective programme management, working closely with services across the organisation and at all levels, supporting the delivery of carbon literacy training to employees and councillors, facilitating engagement activities, reviewing climate change impact assessments, and monitoring the delivery of the council’s Climate Change Strategy.

The council is an excellent employer with rewarding conditions of service which include generous leave entitlement and sick pay, flexible and agile working, progressive HR policies, access to the local government pension scheme, discounted leisure membership and car parking.

For an informal discussion on any aspect of the post please contact Katy Marshall, Policy and Partnerships Manager at katy.marshall@chesterfield.gov.uk. Further information on this post is also available in the job description and person specification attached.

Candidates must possess the necessary right to work authorisation to enable them to work for Chesterfield Borough Council. Regrettably, we are unable to provide sponsorship or assume sponsorship of an employment visa at this juncture.
