What type of classes are available?

To let you know what to expect from our classes, here's our full workout guide, from Aerobics, to Zumba Gold.

We've grouped our classes into exercise types to help you choose the one for you:

50+ aerobics

Specifically designed of the over 50’s with lower impact and intensity, these sessions focus on strength and conditioning to help you exercise and tone without the risk of injury.

50+ badminton / bowls / table tennis

50+ activity day includes a wide variety of activities that you can choose from such as:

Badminton, bowls, aerobics, yoga, table tennis.

50+ stretch and tone

An ideal class to help with comfort and treatment of stiffness, stress and anxiety. Helps to improve posture and increase flexibility specially aimed at those over 50.

A fun, relaxed dance sessions for adults 18+ who have additional needs.

Covering a range of dancing covered from seated dance to partner to general, plus the ability to play racket sports too (badminton, short tennis, table tennis).

Carers and family members are welcome to come along and accompany for free.

Get your heart pumping with this low impact workout

Our low-impact aerobics class is less hard on the body, especially your joints, so you can enjoy a good workout while reducing the risk of injury.

Water based cardiovascular workout

Our aqua aerobics classes provide a water based cardiovascular workout suitable for all levels and abilities. The water helps support the body, putting less stress and strain on joints and muscles. This helps to build strength, tone muscles, improve flexibility and it's incredibly fun. Suitable for ages 14+.

Class type: pool based class

Water based workout for expectant mums

Water based exercise classes, specially designed to help expectant mums to maintain a degree of fitness in pregnancy, with your bump supported by the buoyancy of the water. The class is combined with an aquacise class but this low level based exercise is suitable for women over 14 weeks pregnant. A health screening questionnaire must be completed on the first visit.

A full body workout incorporating ballet moves

An updated version of ballet training incorporating classic ballet positions with modern music helps to give a full body workout. It aims to help build core strength, shape and tone using a combination of cardio style training and strength. Suitable for ages 14+.

All inclusive fun and simple fitness.  

Beatz fitness is a fun and simple, all inclusive group fitness class led by certified Beatz instructors. It is a multi-genre dance fitness workout to choreographed routines.

Indoor Cycling class specifically designed for beginners.

Beginners class where you will learn to build muscle strength, endurance, balance and stamina through our coordinated cycling programme including hill climbs and flat sprints. Burn off the calories and feel happier with this low-impact, high intensity cardio workout. Suitable for ages 14+.

Class type: indoor cycling

A high energy, full body workout

The ultimate fat burning class, raising your heart rate, burning calories and toning your muscles. This high energy, full body workout mixes cardio, weights and body weight exercises challenging and pushing your body throughout the high intensity class.

A high energy martial arts based workout 

A high energy martial arts based workout that lets you punch and kick your way to fitness. Body Combat combines moves from Karate, Taekwondo, Boxing, Muay Thai and Kung Fu but you don't need any martial arts experience to enjoy the benefits of Body Combat. This  Les Mills™ whole body workout helps improve cardio fitness, fat burning and is a great stress reliever.

Weights based studio workout

This Les Mills™ weights based workout which is designed to sculpt, tone and strengthen your whole body. This fast paced barbell-based class using light to moderate weights that suit your ability whilst preforming lots of repetitions, you will get a total body strength workout.

A cardiovascular workout

Based on the training used for boxing so it includes skipping, boxing drills including footwork and abdominal workouts – all focusing on fitness and toning.

A high intensity boxing based class 

A high intensity boxing based class which uses repeated bouts of short duration, high intensity exercises mixed with periods of lower intensity of active recovery.

Class participants can bring their own pads and gloves if they wish. 

The instructor will include workouts for those that bring equipment and those that don’t so that everyone is catered for.

A class designed to help improve strength and balance, from the comfort of a chair.

This class is designed to help improve strength and balance, from the comfort of a chair. It helps maintains independence, improve mobility, and increase strength, flexibility and balance. The exercises in this class also help to perform everyday tasks and reduce risk of falls.

These classes also have the option of doing some of the exercises while standing if preferred.

Strengthen, tone and increase fitness through resistance and aerobic moves

Strengthen, tone and increase fitness through resistance and aerobic moves. Circuit training is a fast paced class in which you do one exercise for a short burst then move on to the next.

Suitable for all levels of fitness as you can work at your own level.

A class designed to strengthen

A 30 minute class designed to work your abs and core, using resistance bands, weights and your own body weight this class can help to strengthen your core muscles.

High energy and fun filled class

A fun and uplifting cardiovascular dance based aerobic workout where the main aim is to have fun. Incorporating different forms of dance, a wide variety of music this is bound to get your heart rate up and blood pumping which makes it suitable for all abilities.

For swimmers who can swim 25m and would like to improve their technique.

Session will help you improve your confidence in deep water by working on skills including treading water and floating.

Designed for those living with dementia.

A fun, relaxed dance session for people living with dementia to come along, keep active and meet new people who are in similar situations. All abilities welcome, no partner is required.

Carer’s and family members are welcome to come along and accompany for free.

Feeling unsteady when on your feet?

A preventing falls class can help improve bone and muscle strength, co-ordination and also improve your balance for when moving around for those feeling unsteady on their feet. It can be adapted to all abilities and included seated and optional standing exercises.

Ball-based class to improve your core stability

Fitness ball based class helps you to improve your balance, core stability and strengthen all areas of the abdomen and back, improve posture and can be adapted to suit your individual fitness level.

Outdoor fitness circuits class

An outdoors circuit class using our fitness locker suitable for all abilities to help you feel better, fitter and stronger. By completing fast paced exercises for short bursts of time this class will help to strengthen, tone and increase fitness. In the event of bad weather the class is able to move indoors if necessary.

Give yourself an all over body workout, with this high energy class which through strength exercises will use every muscle.

Engage and meet new friends in this low impact circuits class

Suitable for those in need of low impact exercises. These classes aim to help people to engage and meet new friends and create bonds in classes, which in turn give you the support and encouragement to attend. Suitable for those recovering from illness, injury or those referred on our referral programme including cardiac rehab.

A great way to develop you fitness 

High-intensity interval training workout involves involve exerting your maximum energy for short periods of time followed by recovery periods using bodyweight, cardio exercise, and weight training. This class is ideal to focus on muscle gain and build up your core strength.

A fantastic functional fitness class

High intensity gym based training class that utilises functional movements performed at high intensity to achieve overall physical fitness.

Outdoor intense resistance exercise

High intensity resistance training session also known as the HIRT Locker. An outdoor fast paced circuits class in which you do one exercise for a short burst then move on to the next.

Cardiovascular workout on exercise bikes

Build muscle strength, endurance, balance and stamina through our coordinated cycling programme including hill climbs and flat sprints. Burn off the calories and feel happier with this low-impact, high intensity cardio workout designed to help you improve on your cycling skills. For ages 14+.

Rock out while you workout.

A dance themed class combining boxing training with cardio and fitness with the emphasis being on the rock music genre. The class uses drumsticks and bodyweight movements to help tone. Suitable for ages 14+.

Use one piece of equipment to engage all muscle groups

A fun class using a kettlebell weight that will get your heart rate up in a whole different way than cardio, with movements challenging almost every muscle in your body by using just one piece of equipment to engage all of your muscle groups.

A class designed to hit those hard to tone areas

High repetition based routines put your legs, bottom and stomach through their paces, provide vital support for your pelvis and help stabilise your core and limbs. Although the sweat factor is high you can chose the intensity to suit you.

Get back in shape after having your baby

This supportive and friendly is suitable to help you to get back to fitness after having a baby, there's a mixture of activities to help you tone up and feel great with our fun and supportive classes where your baby can come too.

This class is suitable for new mums who have had their post-natal health check and pre-school children up to the age four years are welcome.

Space and toys will be provided for your baby or toddler to play but children will remain the responsibility of the parent throughout the class.

This class is suitable for new mums who have had their post-natal health check. If you are unsure please check with your midwife, health visitor or GP before beginning any exercise.

Improve water confidence with gentle exercise.

Gentle exercise in the water. Walking, moving, improving your water confidence and swimming. The unique properties of water make swimming perfect for people of all ages to exercise, particularly those with injuries, long term health conditions, or those who struggle to exercise on land. 

Friendly, social class where our instructor is in the water with you. Warm small pool, depth 1.2m with easy access steps. 

Hoist available if required.

Weekly free supportive group swimming session for anyone who has or is recovering from cancer.

You will be supported throughout by our instructor, who will be available at all times to encourage, reassure and improve your swimming if you required.

Improve posture, flexibility and strength and calm the mind.

Pilates stretches, strengthens, and aligns your body, helping you to perform better in other exercises and activities. The mostly bodyweight routines of Pilates classes can be pretty intense but will help to improve posture, flexibility and strength and calm the mind.

Intense paced yoga to help with mental and physical wellbeing.

This fast-paced style of yoga that's focused on building strength and endurance. Through a series of moves it will help with burning calories, flexibility, physical and mental strength.

Use choreographed step patterns to provide a great fat burning workout.

A traditional style of training, with high impact aerobic movements, choreography and exercises, based around a step, as you progress, so will the movements, always giving you something new and fun to experience in the class.

Suitable for all levels of fitness ability, it is designed to improve cardiovascular and muscular endurance by working your whole body through this traditional style of training.

Improve your swimming stroke techniques

These classes will fine tune your breathing over longer distances. They will refine your stroke techniques as well as developing other skills such as treading water. These classes are brilliant for those training for triathlons or wanting to extend their distance and swimming ability.

Suitable for those who can swim 25 metres.

A twist on a firm favourite

A twist on the pump class with familiar barbell and plate exercises with the added core and legs incorporating body weight with compound movements.

Zumba® is a versatile total body workout to intoxicating beats to burn calories and improve your overall health, endurance and coordination with this official Zumba® instructor-led class.

Lower intensity Zumba® workout for active adults looking for a modified class with original Zumba® moves at a lower intensity. This class focuses on all elements of fitness cardiovascular, muscular conditioning, flexibility and balance.

Advanced booking

Our active fitness members and Annual Active Chesterfield members can book eight days before playing. Annual Active Chesterfield members will pay at the time of booking.

Change4Life (Change for Life) members and non-members can book up to six days in advance and pay at the time of booking.
